


The ancient Olympic games were an athletic and religious celebration held in the Greek town of Olympia from 776B.C.-393A.D.Only males could compete in these Olympics, but before they could participate they had to take an oath and be in training for 10 months.
Originally there was 1 day in the Olympics which was sufficient early on because the stadion was the only event.since more events were added to to the Olympics the days increased.so now there are 5 days in the Olympics.
On Day1:
There are no competitions
Sacrifices are made to the gods and goddesses
Judges and athletes take oaths
On Day2:
Special events for the boys such as boxing and pankration wrestling took place
Ended with a celebration for the young participants
On Day3:
Began with the sacrifice of 100 oxen to Zeus by Elenas(controller of Olympia and the games)
Primary event began such as Chariot races and Horse races
then the pentathlon ,which is a combination of 5 events;sprint,long jump,discus,javelin and wrestling.
On Day4:
started with foot races such as the stadion(200meter),diaulos(400 meter),dolichos(2000)
followed by wrestling boxing and pankration wrestling
the finial event of every Olympic was the hoplitodromia ,which is a 200 meter sprint in a helmet,greaves(calf armor),and a shield
On Day5
This was was the finial day when a long closing ceremony is held
the gods were venerated with sacrifices
The winners were crown with olive wreaths at the awards ceremony and there was a feast in the honor of the winners
